Great Being

Great Beings were the creators of universes, including the Matoran Universe and Mata Nui. They used to live on Spherus Magna until The Shattering, a cataclysmic event that ripped the planet apart.

Mazeka and Vultraz were the only known beings from the Matoran Universe who had seen them.

The Great Beings created the Great Spirit called Mata Nui and placed "within him" the Matoran universe which was created from residual protodermis from their homeplanet. This took place 100,000 years ago. They put Tren Krom in charge and went to more tasks, having laid the foundations for Metru Nui, created the Ignika and formed the Order of Mata Nui. They then breathed life into Mata Nui who replaced Tren Krom and fused the demonic being to a rock wall on an uninhabited island somewhere in the Matoran Universe.

After putting Mata Nui in charge, they did not pay much attention to the Bionicle universe and were unaware of Mata Nui's near death.

• A Great Being who touched the Ignika was cursed by it.
• Two Great Beings who made the Chamber of Life placed the Ignika there.
• Angonce A Great Being who was beileved to gave a Sister of The Skrall member better powers.

• The Great Beings are similar to the Valar from the works of JRR Tolkien and the Old Ones from HP Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos.
