[edit] The Before Time

[edit] Beginning of the Universe

  • The Great Beings create a universe.
  • The first things created by the Great Beings were Matoran.
  • Using the remains of the Matoran creation process, the Great Beings attempt to make Krana. However, some of their efforts resulted in the creation of the Zyglak.
  • Artakha and Karzahni become the first locations created.
  • Matoran are sent to Mainland,Metru Nui and Matoran of Light are sent to the Universe Core.
  • The Matoran believe that if they work well, they will be brought to the refuge of Artakha; while the lazy or damaged were sent to an evil and twisted realm ruled by Karzahni to be repaired. However, Karzahni didn't do a very good job and gave the Matoran weapons to compensate; he sent some of these Matoran to the region around Mount Valmai, but eventually stopped sending Matoran back altogether. The Turga noticed that the Matoran that went to Karzahni never returned, and stopped sending them there.
  • The Great Beings create the first Toa, a Toa of water, named Helryx.
  • The Ignika Mask of Life is created and hidden under Mount Valmai by the Great Beings.
  • The Great Beings secretly form the Order of Mata Nui for Mata Nui to lead. One of the Order's first acts is to send Umbra to guard the Ignika.
  • The Great Beings depart for other universes.
  • The Shadowed One starts the Dark Hunters.
  • The Keetongu and Tahtorak species evolve.
  • The Krekka and Sidorak species evolve.
  • Vortixx evolve on Xia.
  • The Skakdi evolve on Zakaz.
  • The Dark Hunters take in Krekka, four future Piraka and many other beings as Dark Hunters.
  • Artakha creates the Avohkii Mask of Light.
  • The Toa fortress is built and holds the Makoki Stone.
  • An alliance of warlords, the Barraki, form the League of Six Kingdoms.

[edit] Era of Metru Nui

  • The Brotherhood of Makuta is formed, with the purpose of creating and modifying beings as needed to keep the universe running.
  • Metru Nui is built and populated. Its foundations were laid by the Great Beings and the rest was built by Matoran.
  • Mutran,Icarax, and Pridak go to Xia to try and have them lower their price. At the end, Mutran forgets his pet rock which later becomes The Mountain.
  • The League of the Six Kingdoms plots to usurp Mata Nui. The Brotherhood learns of their plans somehow and, allied with the Toa, launch a preemptive strike. The Barraki warlords leading the League are captured and about to be executed when a Order member, Botar, arrives and takes them away to the Pit.
  • Metru Nui enters a civil war called the "Great Disruption"; the war ends when the Brotherhood of Makuta steps in and banishes war leaders to "the Pit". The Order of Mata Nui secretly places an agent in Metru Nui to potentially head off future problems.
  • Toa Jovan leads his team to Mount Valmai and the Mask of Life; however, one member of the team doesn't survive its use. Jovan later becomes a Turaga and leads the region's Matoran.
  • A "Time Slip" of six months occurs that Mata Nui has wiped everyone's memories of, and historical records of this period have also been erased so that only the Order of Mata Nui knows what happened. Among other things, Takua is relocated to Metru Nui as a Ta-Matoran during this time.
  • Turaga Dume is appointed as leader of Metru Nui.
  • Vezok and Hakann steal the Makoki stone from a Toa fortress. They are caught and recruited into the Dark Hunters. The day after the theft, the Toa fortress is overrun by Frostelus, leaving Lhikan as the only survivor.
  • Even at this point, the Brotherhood has begun to be corrupted, as the Toa are suspicious and gathering information on them.
  • Belief in Artakha and Karzahni fades and becomes legend; specifically, Karzahni's realm becomes known as a land of the dead.
  • Zaktan leads a rebellion against the Shadowed One, but fails. The Shadowed One tries to execute him, but Zaktan survives as a mass of protodites.
  • Nuparu invents machines to enforce order in Metru Nui. The Kralhi is a failure, but the Vahki design is successful and is quickly put to use.
  • The Dark Hunters unleash the Kanohi Dragon on Metru Nui in an attempt to intimidate Turaga Dume into allowing a base there. Eleven Toa, including Lhikan and Nidhiki, come to Metru Nui to fight it.
  • After a month of fighting, the Toa win and deport the Kanohi Dragon to Xia and they stay as the city's resident Toa afterwards.
  • After several failed attempts to gain a foothold in Metru Nui, the Shadowed One declares war. Hundreds of Toa come to the city's defense. The months-long war ends when Nidhiki strikes a deal to lead the other Toa into a trap, but Lhikan finds out and sets a trap of his own. Under a deal to get the Makoki stone back, Lhikan expels the Dark Hunters from the city instead of imprisoning them, and Nidhiki is banished along with them.
  • Nidhiki joins the Dark Hunters and trains them. He eventually is paired with Krekka and sent on missions himself.
  • Six months after the end of the war, Roodaka comes to the Dark Hunters for training, and is denied. Nidhiki offers to reward her in exchange for helping him leave the Hunters. She agrees, but betrays him to the Shadowed One; mutating him from a Toa into a monstrous insectoid being. In doing so, she is able to "buy" the training that she wants.
  • The Shadowed One has the Makoki stone stolen back, split into six, and auctioned off to the Brotherhood of Makuta.
  • The Brotherhood of Makuta steals the Avohkii Mask of Light from its makers in Artakha.
  • The Makuta of Metru Nui (known only as "Makuta") gains the Toa Hagah as bodyguards.
  • Makuta attacks Mata Nui, leaving him badly injured and slowly losing consciousness.
  • The Toa Hagah learn of the Brotherhood's corruption and rebel, stealing the Avohkii from them. Four are captured and mutated into Rahaga by Roodaka (who has begun to work for the Brotherhood), and Norik and Iruini go to rescue them. They succeed, but at the price of becoming Rahaga themselves.
  • Roodaka's rival, Sidorak, claims credit for turning the Toa Hagah into Rahaga, and the Brotherhood gives control of the Visorak hordes to him with Roodaka as second-in-command.
  • The Visorak begin to conquer every land they can find. Despite their mutations, the Rahaga begin working to undermine the Visorak's conquests.
  • The Rahaga arrive in Metru Nui, hide the Avohkii there, and begin living secretly in the Archives.
  • Sidorak betrays his clan leader to the Brotherhood, and the leader is mutated into Voporak.
  • The Order of Mata Nui sends Axonn and Brutaka to guard the Ignika Mask of Life, in addition to Umbra.

[edit] The Great Cataclysm

[edit] Strike of Makuta

  • Makuta secretly captures Turaga Dume and takes his place. He brings a pet Rahi, Nivawk, that can spy on the city's inhabitants. (From this point on the phrase "Dume" (with quotes) will refer to Makuta while disguised as Dume.)
  • Makuta creates a plant creature and names it Karzahni, after the tyrant of legend. However, the Karzahni is too powerful and ambitious for Makuta's plans, so he creates a weaker version and calls it the Morbuzakh. He also hires three Dark Hunters; Nidhiki, Krekka, and "Eliminator"; to help.
  • "Dume" orders all passages to and from Metru Nui sealed off. The Toa sent on these and other missions are killed one by one by Eliminator until only Lhikan is left. *"Dume" also asks the city's best maskmaker, Vakama, to make him a Vahi Mask of Time.
  • Makuta unleashes the Morbuzakh on the city's outskirts. The Morbuzakh begins to kidnap Matoran and cause property damage, leading the rest of the population to evacuate towards the city's center.
  • Lhikan becomes suspicious of "Dume" and begins to investigate.
  • Six Matoran discover the locations of the six Great Kanoka Disks, but cannot retrieve them. Prophecies, known only to a few (including Makuta), begin to reveal that these six will become the next Toa. However, what nobody knows is that the prophecies were faked by Mata Nui.
  • Makuta, knowing that Lhikan is about to choose the new Toa, psychically influences him to choose six Matoran other than the ones prophesied. But since the prophecies were false, Lhikan actually chooses the Matoran who were destined to be Toa.
  • Realizing that Nidhiki, his former brother Toa, is back in town and on his trail, Lhikan steals six Toa Stones from the Great Temple, imbues them with his Toa power, and delivers them to the Matoran he chose to be the next Toa. Upon delivering the final Toa Stone to Vakama, he is captured by Nidhiki and Krekka.
  • Nidhiki blackmails Ahkmou, one of the Matoran in the prophecies, into working with him. Together they try to trap the other five Matoran and get the Great Disks.
  • The six Matoran who received Toa Stones gather at the Great Temple, where they become the Toa Metru. Lhikan, whose power was drained by this transformation, becomes a Turaga.
  • Evading the Morbuzakh, Dark Hunters, and Vahki; the Toa Metru track down the six Matoran who know the Great Disks' locations and rescue them from their traps. They each also find evidence that suggests one Matoran is working against the others.
  • The group then splits into three teams of two Toa and two Matoran each, who go off to get the Great Disks.
  • Once the disks are found, the Toa are ready to fight the Morbuzakh. On the way to the Great Furnace, Ahkmou is caught trying to run away from the group and he admits that he was the one who helped trap the other Matoran.
  • At the Great Furnace, the Matoran merge into a Matoran Nui in order to get the Toa in to the Morbuzakh's King Root. Inside, the Toa use the Great Disks to destroy the plant.
  • The Toa Metru head for the Coliseum, believing that "Dume" will honor them as heroes. On the way, they are sidetracked and end up fighting a shapeshifter called Krahka, waking a Tahtorak in the process.
  • Despite the Morbuzakh's defeat, Matoran continue to disappear.
  • The Toa arrive at the Coliseum and offer the Great Disks they collected as evidence of their heroism. "Dume" rejects this and forces the Toa to face a grueling physical test, which the Toa fail. "Dume" brands the Toa as imposters and orders Vahki to capture them. Seeing "Dume" and the Dark Hunters standing together, Vakama realizes that "Dume" is a traitor.
  • Vakama, Nokama, and Matau are on the run; frequently escaping attacks by Vahki and the Dark Hunters, as well as an encounter with Tahtorak.
  • Onewa, Whenua, and Nuju are locked up with a strange Turaga, who puts them to work doing seemingly pointless tasks.
  • Vakama sees Lhikan's Spirit Star over Po-Metru; and he, Nokama, and Matau decide to follow it. Vakama also finds he can merge the Great Disks together, and begins to experiment with making it into a mask.
  • In the prison, an argument breaks out over the point of the Turaga's tasks. In the process, Onewa and Nuju activate their mask powers, allowing the three Toa and the Turaga to escape.
  • "Dume" orders all the Matoran to the Coliseum to prepare for an impending crisis.
  • The Toa reunite in the tunnels, and the Turaga reveals himself to be Lhikan. The group finds a silver sphere and discover that the real Turaga Dume is unconscious inside. *They race to the Coliseum to face the Dume imposter.
  • They arrive at the Coliseum to find they are too late; the city's entire population has been put into spheres and rendered unconscious. "Dume" reveals that he is really Makuta.
  • The Great Spirit Mata Nui finally falls into a coma, and is therefore unable to hold back worldwide disasters (collectively known as the "Great Cataclysm").
  • Metru Nui is hit by an earthquake and double eclipse, reducing the city to ruins. The quake also breaks many of the Archives' stasis tubes, freeing most of the Rahi inside.
  • Above Metru Nui, on the planet's surface, energized protodermis spills out on a barren island, transforming it into a lush tropical paradise.
  • Far south of Metru Nui, Mount Valmai and the surrounding region breaks off of its landmass and rockets up to the surface, becoming the floating island known as Voya Nui. Turaga Jovan is killed in the process.
  • The dome surrounding the Pit shatters, causing the sea to flood in. The waters mutate the inhabitants into water-breathers, keeping them from escaping outside the ocean.
  • The Toa Metru grab six spheres and strap them to their transport, intending to come back for the rest later. They then flee the Coliseum.
  • Makuta transforms from his Dume form; absorbing Nidhiki, Krekka, Nivawk, and the Coliseum's power supply into his body to add to his might.
  • With Vakama inspired to take charge, he has Matau drive their transport into the sea (the spheres made it buoyant enough to float). He also has a vision telling him to head for a crack in the Great Barrier that surrounds the city.
  • Remembering the special request that "Dume" made before he became a Toa, Vakama begins to forge the Great Disks into a Vahi Mask of Time.
  • Makuta flies in to confront the escaping Toa, and Vakama goes up to fight him.
  • Vakama attempts to use the Vahi against Makuta, but loses control and catches both of them in slow-motion. Makuta fires a deadly blast that Vakama cannot evade; *Lhikan jumps in the way of the blast and is fatally wounded.
  • With the Vahi knocked off Vakama's face and into the sea by the blast, time returns to normal for him and Makuta. While Makuta goes after the Vahi, Vakama sees Lhikan die.
  • Vakama finally discovers and activates his mask power of concealment, and uses it to evade Makuta's attacks.
  • The other Toa join Vakama and seal Makuta away in a prison of solid protodermis.
  • The Toa float their transport through a river tunnel, running into trouble when they encounter a paranoid Matoran named Mavrah and the sea Rahi that he looks after. The *Toa's fight to escape sparks a feeding frenzy, leaving Mavrah presumed drowned and one of the transport's spheres (one that just happens to hold the traitor Ahkmou) lost at sea.
  • The Toa arrive at the newly transformed tropical island on the planet's surface, naming it Mata Nui in honor of the Great Spirit.

[edit] The Great Rescue

  • The Toa Metru explore Mata Nui, each choosing a place to establish a village for Matoran from their home metru. They also each create a Toa Stone and hide it.
  • Answering a telepathic call from the trapped Makuta, Sidorak and Roodaka lead their Visorak armies to Metru Nui.
  • The Toa find another tunnel leading underground and begin the long walk back to Metru Nui. They encounter the Karzahni plant, who blackmails the Toa into getting some energized protodermis that could potentially transform it; but it is not the Karzahni's destiny to transform so it is destroyed.
  • The Toa return to Metru Nui. Vakama leads the Toa directly to the Coliseum, where they are quickly captured and mutated, though the Rahaga save them from certain death.

[edit] Web of the Visorak

  • The Toa Metru find that they are now monstrous Toa Hordika; besides their grotesque physical mutations, the Toa's feral, animalistic sides are beginning to be unleashed. *The Rahaga say a Rahi called Keetongu could reverse the venom's effects - if he even exists.
  • The Toa Hordika decide to put the Matoran first and worry about their mutations later; coming up with a plan to build airships to ferry the Matoran's spheres to the island above. They and the Rahaga start to go off on missions to find airship parts, as well as Kanohi Masks and other supplies that will be needed. The Rahaga also tell the Toa of the Avohkii Mask of Light that they hid in the city and of the Makoki stones that will be needed to unlock its hiding place.
  • Roodaka painfully cuts away a piece of Makuta's prison, and stores the black stone.
  • Roodaka accepts and wins a challenge from Krahka, and has her plant evidence that Mata Nui intended others to be the Toa. Krahka later turns to the Toa's side when *Rahaga Pouks reveals that the Visorak nearly wiped out her kind.
  • Sidorak has a Zivon summoned from the Zone of Darkness, which Krahka and Tahtorak fight. In the end, all three disappear into the Zone.
  • Somewhere around this time, the Toa Hordika are able to recover the Mask of Light from its hiding place, though it is encased in stone from one of Toa Onewa's Rhotuka spinners.
  • Turaga Dume is also somehow freed from his slumber around this time.
  • Tired of failing, Vakama briefly considers abandoning the team and trying to free the Matoran on his own.
  • Roodaka abducts Vakama and offers him command of the Visorak, which he accepts.
  • Vakama attacks and kidnaps the Rahaga at the Great Temple, leaving only Rahaga Norik behind as a message for the Toa Hordika. He then presents his captives to Sidorak as proof of his intentions.
  • Norik and the Toa begin searching for Keetongu. Once they find him, he agrees to help, but he won't cure the Toa's mutations just yet.
  • The Toa and Keetongu storm the Visorak's headquarters in the Coliseum. While most of the Toa head for the Matoran spheres, Toa Matau goes to confront Vakama, Norik frees the other Rahaga, and Keetongu goes after Sidorak and Roodaka.
  • Roodaka injures Keetongu, but refuses to finish him off. As a result, Sidorak is killed by the enraged Rahi.
  • Vakama attacks Matau and nearly kills him, until Matau talks him down and convinces him that the Toa need him if the Matoran are going to be saved.
  • The six Toa confront Roodaka, and all but Vakama fire their Rhotuka spinners. As the Visorak's commander, Vakama orders the hordes to leave; they quickly comply.
  • Vakama fires his Rhotuka spinner at Roodaka. Since her black stone has now absorbed all six Toa energies, it implodes; and the prison that it was cut from shatters, freeing Makuta. Makuta teleports Roodaka out of the middle of the explosion.
  • Keetongu then cures the Toa Hordika of their mutations, making them Toa Metru again. The Toa, Rahaga, and Keetongu all work together to load the Matoran spheres onto the airships that will bring them to the island above.
  • While the other Toa Metru fly the airships to Mata Nui, Vakama goes off on his own to retrieve the Vahi Mask of Time. He ends up fighting for it against not only Makuta, but Dark Hunters the Shadowed One and Voporak. Vakama is able to get the mask, while the Shadowed One notices parts of Nidhiki and Krekka in Makuta's body, leading him to declare war between the Dark Hunters and the Brotherhood of Makuta.
  • Trying to escape the city, Vakama encounters the resprouted Karzahni plant, who helps by revealing that he was meant to be the Toa of Fire all along; any evidence otherwise was planted by Mata Nui and his Order in order to trick Makuta.
  • After Makuta kills the Karzahni, Vakama faces him and threatens to destroy the Vahi. Makuta reluctantly agrees to leave Vakama's allies in Metru Nui alone, and to give the Matoran on Mata Nui one year of peace.
  • Vakama returns to the other Toa Metru on Mata Nui, where they unload all the spheres and give up their Toa power to revive the Matoran inside. Now Turaga, they lead their respective Matoran in constructing villages.

[edit] Era of Mata Nui

[edit] Back on Metru Nui...

  • The Brotherhood of Makuta and the Dark Hunters are at war throughout the entire thousand-year period. Roodaka plays both sides in the conflict. The Toa are aware of the Brotherhood's betrayal but lack the numbers to declare open war; yet they still take advantage of the fighting to strike the Brotherhood whenever they can.
  • Turaga Dume and the Rahaga do what they can to rebuild Metru Nui. The Rahaga are also away from the city frequently to help lands that have been conquered by the Visorak. Keetongu leaves for parts unknown.
  • Due to their time trapped in the spheres, the Matoran on Mata Nui begin to physically weaken; they also lose all memory of Metru Nui. The Turaga decide to keep Metru Nui's existence a secret. Turaga Vakama invents tales of a lava surfer named Lhii as a way to honor Lhikan's memory.
  • Teridax recovers the lost sphere that holds Ahkmou, and takes advantage of his memory loss to convince him to help in taking revenge on Toa, Turaga, and Matoran alike.
  • Exactly one year after losing the Vahi Mask of Time to Vakama, Makuta starts to enslave Rahi to his will by having Kraata infect their Kanohi Masks. He commands the enslaved Rahi to attack the Matoran, but the Matoran steadfastly defend themselves. Meanwhile, the Turaga secretly hunt and capture every Kraata they can find.
  • Zaktan discovers the Brotherhood's entire records and plans of the Great Cataclysm, and he vows to use the knowledge to his advantage.
  • A village on Voya Nui sinks under the sea and close to the Pit; the Matoran living there name their city Mahri Nui and do their best to survive both their new environment and the banished Barraki preying on them.
  • A brief battle between Mazeka and Vultraz on the Tren Krom Peninsula occurs.

[edit] The Coming of the Toa

  • The Turaga are captured by Makuta's Rahi.
  • A wanderer, Takua, travels throughout the island, not only rescuing the Turaga but collecting the Toa Stones that Rahi now guard.
  • Takua places the Toa Stones at the Kini-Nui temple at the center of Mata Nui. The Stones shoot a large beam of light into the air that launches Takua to the island's shoreline. Out in the ocean, six Toa canisters begin to float toward Mata Nui.
  • The canisters land on the shores of Mata Nui. The Toa inside reassemble themselves, but they remember little more than their names. They each head for a different region and quickly find the villages, where the Turaga tell them of their mission to wake the Great Spirit Mata Nui.
  • The Toa begin to search the island for the Kanohi Masks that will aid them. However, Makuta believes these Toa to be imposters and sends Rahi to guard the masks and prevent the Toa from getting them.
  • Takua wakes up near where Toa Tahu's canister washed ashore, but the fall gave him a mild case of amnesia.
  • Po-Koro is hit with a strange epidemic. Takua finds out that the source is "Comet Balls" for the sport of koli that have been poisoned, and then sold by Ahkmou. He helps Toa *Pohatu find and destroy the source of the poisoned balls, and is afterward appointed the position of Chronicler by Turaga Nokama.
  • In his search, Toa Lewa is defeated and gets his mask stolen. It is replaced with an infected mask, making him a slave of Makuta just like most Rahi. Against his will, he turns against the Le-Matoran and captures many of them (including Turaga Matau).
  • In helping the Le-Koro Gukko Force to fend off a Rahi attack, Takua lands in the hive where the Le-Matoran are trapped. Shortly afterwards, Toa Onua arrives and fights Lewa, knocking his infected mask off and freeing him.
  • As each Toa collects a full set of masks, they gain a special Golden Kanohi Mask and a Makoki stone.
  • Once all six Toa have collected their masks, they gather at the Kini-Nui temple. There, they use their Makoki Stones to unlock the path to Mangaia, Makuta's underground lair. Takua has gathered a small squad of Matoran (called "the Chronicler's Company") to guard the temple so that Rahi will not block the Toa's escape route.
  • The Toa face Manas crabs that Makuta has guarding his lair, and they combine into Toa Kaita to fight them. Upon entering the lair after the Manas are defeated, the Toa Kaita break apart at the hands of Makuta's destructive spirit.
  • The Chronicler's Company is able to fight off attacking Rahi until the Ta-Koro Guard, the Onu-Koro Ussalry, and the Le-Koro Gukko Force all arrive as reinforcements. *Takua, who has been able to observe the Toa through a psychic link with Toa Gali, is warned that the link will break and Takua now has to find the Toa himself in order to record what happens.
  • The Toa go in to face Makuta, but they are surprised by another set of his guards: shadow versions of themselves. The Toa fight to a standstill against their respective Shadow Toa, until they realize that they cannot defeat "themselves" by fighting individually. They begin working together; defeating the Shadow Toa by each fighting another's counterpart.
  • The Toa are now ready to face Makuta himself, but he baffles them by appearing as a mere Matoran, "that which [the Toa] have sworn to protect." (By this time Takua has found a way into Mangaia and is watching from the sidelines.) He then changes form into a swirling mass of mechanical pieces, and attacks the Toa with shadowy tentacles; the Toa counter with blasts of elemental power. Makuta seems to be defeated, but he leaves ominous parting words: "You cannot destroy me. For I am Nothing."

[edit] The Bohrok Strike

  • In truth, Makuta has only retreated, having decided these Toa are the real thing. He awakens the Bohrok swarms to fight the Toa next.
  • The Toa are teleported out of Makuta's lair by beams of light. Takua, being left behind, sees a large door open and walks through it. He finds himself in a huge Bohrok nest - just as the creatures are waking up! Luckily, he is able to quickly escape to the surface far ahead of the Bohrok.
  • By the time the Toa reach the surface, Ta-Koro is already under attack. After driving the Bohrok off, Turaga Vakama tells them what Bohrok are and that their Krana must be collected in order to stop them. The Toa split up to protect the Matoran.
  • However, the villages are not holding up so well. Onu-Koro is flooded and has to be evacuated. Worse, Lewa finds that all of Le-Koro is under the Krana's control. Not wanting to fight the Le-Matoran, he allows a Krana to be placed on his face as well.
  • While in the flooded caves, Onu-Matoran engineer Nuparu finds a Krana-less Bohrok and discovers that the Bohrok are mere machines, controlled by their living Krana. *From this discovery, he uses Bohrok parts to create a defense machine called the Boxor.
  • Toa Kopaka discovers a huge chasm in the island that leads to the main Bohrok nest. He and Tahu agree to wait until all the Toa are together before they venture inside.
  • Onua goes to find Lewa, and helps him fight the Krana's influence. At the same time, the Onu-Matoran use their new Boxor machines to help free Le-Koro.
  • The six Toa, having collected all the Krana they need, enter the Bohrok nest. Meanwhile, Jaller and Takua lead a Boxor squad to Ga-Koro to help them brace for a coming attack. Turaga Onewa and the Po-Matoran also arrive at Ga-Koro, having had to evacuate their own village.
  • After escaping some of the nest's traps, the Toa use their Krana to open up six passages, each one holding a set of Exo-Toa armor.
  • The now-armored Toa face the Bahrag, Cahdok and Gahdok, and try to force them into the center of the chamber, while the Bahrag counter with the Bohrok's elemental powers and their own illusions. The Toa decide to ditch their armor and focus their elemental powers into a single blast, which traps the Bahrag in a cage of protodermis.
  • Before they can celebrate, the Toa fall through the floor into tubes of energized protodermis, transforming and emerging as Toa Nuva. As the nest collapses, the Toa make their escape.
  • Meanwhile, the defense of Ga-Koro isn't going so well, as the Boxors are knocked into the water and sunk. At the defeat of the Bahrag and the creation of the Toa Nuva, however, beams of light shoot out of Toa Suvas across the island, neutralizing the Bohrok. Nuva Symbols also appear above the Suvas, but the Kanohi Masks that the Suvas held disappear.
  • In the end, the Matoran dispose of the Krana and reprogram the Bohrok machines to follow their orders. Hewkii's act of knocking away an airborne rock during the attack on Ga-Koro inspires a new version of koli called "kolhii". And Jaller, Hewkii, and Macku are honored for their bravery with a Naming Day.

[edit] Attack of the Bohrok Kal

  • Turaga Vakama reluctantly gives Tahu the Vahi Mask of Time, just in case, but not before giving a severe warning of the dangers it holds.
  • The Toa Nuva experiment with their new powers, and decide that they are now strong enough to handle any threats on their own. They decide to break up the team, with Gali being the only one to object.
  • Meanwhile, six elite Bohrok called Bohrok-Kal have been released with the mission of freeing the Bahrag from their prison. They start by stealing the Nuva Symbols from the villages, stripping the Toa Nuva of their elemental powers.
  • The Toa fight to keep the Bohrok-Kal from completing their mission, but they have few successes. Even forming a Toa Kaita Nuva fails when the Bohrok-Kal fuse into a Kaita being of their own. Still, the Toa are able to collect the new Kanohi Nuva Masks that appeared on the island after their transformation.
  • The Bohrok-Kal take control of the Bohrok from the Matoran, ordering them back to the nests in preparation for a second invasion. They also discover where the Bahrag are being held; the Toa find out and quickly follow them.
  • The Toa arrive and see the Exo-Toa fighting off the Bohrok-Kal by themselves, but the Exo-Toa are quickly reduced to scrap metal.
  • The Bohrok-Kal begin to lift the Nuva Symbols to the Nuva Cube - which act as the keys and lock to the Bahrag's prison - and Tahu attempts to use the Vahi to slow them to a near-standstill. But since the Bohrok-Kal are so close to completing their mission, their Krana-Kal have turned silver and begun emitting an inpenetrable force field.
  • The Toa Nuva instead gamble on the idea that if the Nuva Symbols can give power, then they can receive it as well. As the Toa begin to channel their power through the symbols, the Bohrok-Kal feel the effects; with their new power they decide to leave the Bahrag where they are and rule the swarms themselves.
  • But this is short-lived as the Bohrok-Kal's powers begin to spiral out of control; their bodies are quickly destroyed by their own powers and only their Krana-Kal remain. *The Toa Nuva reclaim their Nuva Symbols - and with them, their elemental powers - and return to their villages.
  • The next few weeks are peaceful ones. The Turaga decide to share a secret of how the Matoran can rebuild their bodies to be stronger. The Toa, however, are getting tired of the Turaga's constant secrets. The Turaga discuss whether or not to share everything with the Toa, and decide to tell them all the tales of Metru Nui once the upcoming kolhii tournament has finished.

[edit] Mask of Light

  • Shortly before the final match of the kohlii tournament, Takua enters a forbidden lava cave to check out a strange totem. When he accidentally drops the totem into the lava, it melts and reveals a Great Kanohi Mask inside. Tahu tells Takua to show the mask to the Turaga - after the tournament.
  • After a hard-fought kolhii match, the Ga-Matoran team wins. But the victory celebration is cut short when Takua drops the glowing mask in the center of the stadium!
  • Turaga Nokama translates the inscriptions on the mask, revealing that it is the Avohkii Mask of Light and that a Herald must find the Toa who wears it. Takua, not wanting the responsibility, suggests that Jaller is the Herald; Jaller retaliates by having the Turaga appoint Takua his traveling companion.
  • Makuta releases three of his deadly Rahkshi: Panrahk, Lerahk, and Guurahk, with the mission of tracking down the Herald.
  • The Rahkshi arrive at Ta-Koro (where Takua and Jaller started their journey) and utterly destroy the place, sending the entire village sinking into the lava (but the Matoran managed to evacuate safely). Lerahk also poisons Tahu.
  • The Rahkshi catch up with Takua and Jaller in the icy mountains near Ko-Koro, but Kopaka is able to freeze them solid in a lake.
  • Makuta comes to Takua in the shadows, telling him that Jaller will die if he won't turn over the Mask of Light. Takua refuses to give up the mask, but to keep Jaller safe he abandons the search. Makuta decides to release three more Rahkshi: Kurahk, Vorahk, and Turahk.
  • Turaga Whenua reveals to Pohatu and Onua that the Turaga have been hunting Kraata and keeping them in stasis in a desert cave; Pohatu is particularly angered that dangerous creatures have been stored in his own region.
  • Takua meets Pohatu and Onua in Onu-Koro just before the second team of Rahkshi begin their attack. He realizes that he doesn't have the Mask of Light, so the Rahkshi must be after the Herald - him. In the end, Onu-Koro caves in entirely (but again, everyone gets out safely).
  • Takua tracks down Jaller and apologizes, admitting that he should have taken the responsibility as Herald from the start. Meanwhile, the first team of Rahkshi free themselves from the frozen lake.
  • Meanwhile, Tahu's temper is growing increasingly out of control due to Lerahk's poison and Kurahk's anger power; but Gali, Lewa, and Kopaka are able to use their Toa powers to heal him.
  • Takua and Jaller arrive at the Kini-Nui Temple. They are quickly attacked by all six Rahkshi, but just as quickly rescued by the Toa Nuva. The Toa trap and disable five of the Rahkshi, but Turahk gets through to the Matoran. Jaller takes a fatal blast intended for Takua, and Takua realizes that his destiny is to be the Toa of Light. He renames himself Takanuva and takes care of Turahk.
  • The next day, the Toa Nuva build an Ussanui vehicle, which Takanuva insists on driving to Makuta's lair alone. But Hahli stows away on the Ussanui, offering to be Takanuva's Chronicler.
  • Takanuva tells Hahli to bring all the Matoran down to the lair. After Hahli is gone, Makuta challenges Takanuva to a "kolhii match" that ends up destroying most of the pillars in the lair. When the Matoran arrive, Makuta takes out the last pillar, causing a small cave-in and blocking off the escape route.
  • Takanuva rips off Makuta's mask, and they both fall into the lair's pool of energized protodermis. They emerged fused into a single being called Takutanuva, with Takanuva's benevolent personality in control.
  • Takutanuva lifts up a huge gate for the Matoran to go through, but stops Hahli, who is holding Jaller's mask. He uses part of his life force to resurrect Jaller, but this proves too much for him; he is no longer able to hold up the gate and is crushed.
  • The Matoran are able to retrieve the Mask of Light, from which the rest of Takanuva's body is restored in a beam of light. Takanuva then lights up the cavern, and off in the distance is the Matoran's ancient home of Metru Nui.
  • The Matoran make their way back to Mata Nui, and spend the next few weeks building boats to sail to Metru Nui. In the meantime, the Turaga tell the Toa Nuva the tales of the Great Cataclysm and the Great Rescue - though Vakama intentionally leaves out the events concerning the retrieval of the Vahi Mask of Time.
  • Six Dark Hunters hear rumors of Makuta's death and sneak off to investigate, abandoning the Hunters entirely and calling themselves "Piraka".
  • They find Makuta's empty armor, and in raiding his lair find a Spear of Fusion. Hakann accidentally fires the spear at Vezok, causing him to split into two. The second being takes the name "Vezon" and claims the spear.
  • All seven somehow gain knowledge of a powerful Kanohi, the Mask of Life, and know immediately that they must get to Voya Nui to find it as soon as possible.
  • The group is attacked by Mana Ko and they escape to Mata Nui, though Vezon disappears in the midst of it. The remaining six find Toa canisters and decide to use them to get to Voya Nui.
  • The Matoran land on the shores of Metru Nui, and are greeted by the Rahaga and Turaga Dume.

[edit] The Race for the mask of Life

[edit] Ignition

  • Turaga Dume reveals that Mata Nui is not only asleep, but dying. He sends the Toa Nuva to Voya Nui, where the Mask of Life that might save Mata Nui is supposedly hidden; though he insists that Takanuva stay behind.
  • The Piraka arrive on Voya Nui and pretend to be Toa to gain the trust of the native Matoran. But they can't hide their cruel natures, and some of the Matoran become suspicious.
  • On Metru Nui, Jaller realizes the Toa Nuva have disappeared, and that can only mean trouble. The Turaga refuse to tell him what's going on, so he has all the Matoran in the city drop their work and go on strike.
  • Six Matoran on Voya Nui (Balta, Dalu, Piruk, Velika, Garan, and Kazi) begin to spy on the Piraka and steal a Zamor Launcher from them, learning that they are not really Toa. Meanwhile, the Piraka use new antidermis-filled Zamor Spheres to enslave the rest of the Matoran.
  • The Toa Nuva arrive on Voya Nui and immediately get in a fight with the Piraka. Though the battle is close, the Piraka ultimately win.
  • Turaga Nokama visits Jaller and tells him where and why the Toa Nuva have gone. After she leaves, Jaller makes up his mind to gather a few other Matoran and go to aid the Toa Nuva.
  • Jaller, Hahli, Kongu, Hewkii, Nuparu, Matoro, and Takanuva travel in search of the Toa Nuva. Takanuva is forced to turn back after they reach a barrier that no light is allowed to pass through.
  • The Toa Nuva are able to escape their captors, though without their masks. They are then attacked by the unenslaved Voya Nui Matoran, but Balta halts the battle on Axonn's word. Meanwhile, Zaktan forges a secret alliance with Brutaka.
  • Jaller and his companions find themselves in the realm of Karzahni, ruled by a being of the same name. They are forced to abandon their masks and adopt new ones.
  • The rebel Matoran and the Toa Nuva sneak into the fortress and recover the Toa's masks, but are defeated by Brutaka. At his demand, the Toa are turned over to him.
  • Jaller and the others discover an escape route in the form of six Toa canisters. Karzahni attempts to stop them with a vision of the future, but is stunned to discover that the universe is in danger of dying.
  • The Piraka suspect that Vezon is on the island and begin looking for him, and Axonn begins fighting them whenever he encounters them.
  • The six canisters wash up on the shore of Voya Nui. Lightning comes down from the Red Star, transforming Jaller and his team into the Toa Inika.
  • Brutaka hides the Toa Nuva away while the Matoran are able to escape the Piraka.
  • The Toa Inika soon meet the rebel Matoran, and decide to split up after comparing notes: Jaller, Hahli, Dalu, and Piruk free enslaved Matoran with few problems; while *Hewkii, Matoro, Balta, and Kazi find a badly beaten Axonn, who tells them to stop Brutaka.
  • Kongu, Nuparu, Garan, and Velika infiltrate the Piraka stronghold to try and rescue the Toa Nuva, but are soon caught. Just as the Piraka and Brutaka are about to kill them, the other Toa Inika arrive.
  • A fight breaks out with the Toa Inika on one side and the Piraka and Brutaka on the other. Meanwhile, the Matoran search the stronghold for the Toa Nuva.
  • In the midst of the battle, Hakann and Thok steal Brutaka's power; and the Toa Inika and remaining Piraka strike an uneasy alliance to try and depower them. Meanwhile, the two begin fighting each other until the Toa and Piraka catch up with them; and Hewkii is able to fire the shot that returns Brutaka's power to him just as Hakann and Thok lauch a combined attack that knocks everyone out.
  • Brutaka wakes up and attacks Axonn, and the two begin to battle.
  • The Toa Inika wake up to find the Piraka gone, headed towards the Mask of Life. They decide to follow, agreeing that they can't waste time looking for Axonn or the Toa Nuva.
  • The Piraka and Toa Inika follow separate paths in the tunnels; with the Piraka facing Irnakk as one of their trials, while one of the Inika's tests is a battle with Umbra.
  • Brutaka creates a portal to the Zone of Darkness to try and trap Axonn, but Axonn ultimately wins the fight, destroying the Piraka's vat of antidermis. Botar arrives and, despite Axonn's protests, takes Brutaka away.
  • After they leave, Krahka and Tahtorak use Brutaka's portal to escape the Zone.
  • The Matoran find the Toa Nuva and free them.
  • The Piraka are first to the Chamber of Life, and find Vezon, fused to a giant Fenrakk spider. After Vezok tries to kill him, Vezon fuses Vezok and Reidak together and unleashes the being on the other four Piraka.
  • The Inika arrive in the chamber to find the four Piraka beaten, and the other two pass out after Vezon unfuses them. They challenge Vezon and Fenrakk, and when the Inika get the upper hand Vezon drives Fenrakk into the chamber's lava; both are unharmed and Fenrakk reemerges as a dragon named Kardas.
  • Kongu uses his Mask of Telepathy on the Mask of Life, learning that it wants to dismiss Vezon as its guardian in favor of Matoro. Vezon becomes enraged at this news, and Jaller takes the chance to use a Zamor Sphere from Axonn that freezes Vezon and Kardas in space and time, allowing Matoro to claim the mask.
  • After being un-frozen, Kardas causes Matoro to lose his grip on the mask and it flies away into the ocean. The Inika chase it until it dives undersea and Hahli dives in after it only to find that a matoran that is almost dead tells the toa that there is and evil beneath the sea and he dies. They then meet up with Axonn and the Toa Nuva. The Piraka follow them, but upon seeing twelve Toa and Axonn they decide to lay low for a while.
  • The Toa Nuva recognize that it is the Inika's destiny is to save Mata Nui's life, not theirs; and they give the Inika their blessing to take over the mission.
  • Axonn opens a passageway leading under the sea so that the Toa Inika can follow the Mask of Life underwater.
  • Vezon and Kardas, no longer cursed, go their separate ways. Kardas later emerges on the surface of Voya Nui and engages in a fight against Tahtorak.

[edit] City of the Lost

  • The Mask of Life floats down to Mahri Nui, and is claimed by Kyrehx before being passed to Dekar.

Despite the arguments held by the other Mahri, Jaller stated that it was the only way they could make time to save Mata Nui. However, before he unleashed the blast, the Toa Mahri were teleported back to Metru Nui. Jaller had to struggle to keep the level of power down so he wouldn't destroy the city.
  • They were greeted by Vakama, who told them about Matoro's deed. Hahli was the most shaken about it, and told the chronicler about what happened in Mahri Nui, and went on to the memorial with the rest of the Toa Mahri and the Turaga.
